Styling Cushions on a Sofa
A sofa is where cushion styling has the most visible impact — and where it's easiest to get wrong by using too many, or too few of the same size.
For a two-seater, three to four cushions is usually the sweet spot. For a three-seater, aim for five to six. Mix a larger square (55–60cm) at the back corners with a smaller lumbar or standard square layered in front — the size contrast is what creates depth, rather than a straight row of matching cushions.
Odd numbers per side tend to look more relaxed and considered than symmetrical pairs. And don't feel every cushion needs to match: pairing one or two patterned cushions with solid, textured neighbours (boucle, linen, chenille) gives the eye somewhere to land without feeling chaotic.
